SOME VERY NICE EMAILS FROM YOU(!) ABOUT OUR SMITHEREENS SHOWS THIS PAST WEEKEND...

The Smithereens are from another time.

A time when musicians worked hard to entertain you and humbly appreciate the fact that you spent your hard earned dollars to come see them.

A time where the band gives you every bit of passion in their performance you could possibly ask for – and then gives you even more.

With lyrics that reach out to the many experiences in our lives and power chords that rock you to your core - The Smithereens are truly timeless.

Unless you’ve had the pleasure of seeing these guys live, then you can’t ever claim to know what a powerful live performance is really like and how it can move you.

Judging by the expression on everyone’s face when then house lights when up, I suspect everyone at BB Kings last Saturday night felt the same way.

As fans, we’re lucky to have them to take us away from our day to day issues for a few hours and show us a great time.

The music industry is lucky to have them to remind them what real musicians are like and the loyalty they inspire in their fans.

Keep rocking guys.

We’ll keep coming.

Pat,

I had the incredible pleasure to be in the audience for your show at BB King’s on Saturday.

You guys were incredible.

We’ve been walking on air ever since.

Just wanted to make sure that I wrote to you to tell you how much we LOVED the show…and that we can’t wait to see you guys again.

By the way, you never DID say the name of your bass player, we only know him as the “Thrilla from Manilla.”

Regardless, he was fabulous.

Thanks again for a magnificent show.

Debbie

Great Show at B.B.Kings (no surprise there!)-

Hey Pat,

Every time I see you guys, it's brand new.
Admittedly, this venue is a great space, not too big, the audience is all close, and the acoustics allow you to play loud enough and for us to hear everything without echoes or distortion or being blasted out the door.
This is the annual event that, for me, sets a new standard for everything that follows for the year.
Few shows that I'll see will meet that standard.
The open floor gave the audience a chance to be right up by the stage.
Very democratic.
It allowed me to take some great pictures (and some video).
It was a good choice to do a Tommy medley without letting covers overwhelm the show when there are so many great Smithereens songs.
It's good to hear that you have the budget to do a new Smithereens album.
My best wishes to you for the new year.

Last night's show was probably the best Smithereen show I've seen to date ....

They're doing a "20th Anniversary celebration" set in honor of "11".

For it, they did a 10 minute "career highlight film" showing them on everything from Uncle Floyd to Arsenio to SNL, and even a clip of Jean Claude Van Damme with them, introducing the video for "time wont let me" from the moive "Timecop".

The end of the film is basically Arsenio saying "and here they are, to perform a song from their new album 11 ...."

Then, they launch into a performance of the whole (all 35 minutes of it) album.

Kinda cool, in that they usually do around 4 songs from that album every night anyway, and it didn't "monopolize" the set since it's fairly short.

What it DOES do, is put "A Girl Like You" in the opening slot, rather than as the traditional closer, making for an interesting set.

Hi Pat,

Just wanted to let you know that I was at your show Saturday at BB King’s. It was one of the best concerts I have ever been too. Even though I am only 21, I’ve been going to concerts since I was 13.

My first concert was The Scorpions and Deep Purple!

My Dad and I truly enjoyed your show.

He’s been a Smithereens fan for ages and he’s the one that got me into you guys.

I hope to catch you guys when you come back in the area.

Too bad I missed you guys at the Community Theater in Morristown, which is about five minutes away from me since I live in Whippany (which is not too far from you!)

It’s hard now at days to find a band or musician which you can truly connect with.

You guys give me that feeling, it’s hard to describe… your music is one of a kind!

Thanks again for a great show…!

Bill T.

Mr. Babjak,

Thank you so much for coming to Durham, NC.

I have to say that the show was the best I have been to in YEARS!

Two of my friends and I got to see you back in 1986 and decided to celebrate our 40th birthdays seeing the Smithereens one more time and we are all fans for life!

Thank you also for being kind enough to speak with us after the show.

I hope you include North Carolina on you tour list again. Thanks to all of the Smithereens for an outstanding show.

From Dr. W-

Btw Thanks for a rocking amazing BBKing bash.

What a spectacular opening video.

I got goose bumps.

On a technical note, I haven't heard a better FOH mix by anybody at BBKings.

Congrats
